Frequently Asked Questions
Hi, and welcome to the Onyx Boox 60 and Bebook Neo FAQ post. In this post I will try to keep the most frequently asked questions and the current answers.
If you miss an answer to a question here, saw something that is no longer correct, noticed a post on the forum that deserves to be in here: please let me know in a private message. You can do so by clicking on the "PM" icon to the right. Kib :?: Who is the maker of the Boox 60 eBook reader which is also sold as Bebook Neo ? Onyx International. They have a Chinese / English website, with a small, mostly Chinese forum and the official location for the latest firmware :?: Does the Boox 60 use UMS? Yes. The device will show up correctly in Windows and Linux operating systems. The Onyx Boox internal storage shows up as "Boox" USB medium, the SD card is also auto mounted as a separate device. :?: Mobipocket is looking for a PID. Where is it? The Boox 60 does not support DRM'ed mobipocket. Instead, Onyx has a license for the usage of Adobe's DRM solution. :?: I have bought my Boox 60 clone from another company/country/whatever. Can I install the newest official firmware? Yes. The firmware is universal for all retailers, countries and rebranded names (Wolder Boox or Bebook Neo). :?: I can't get the dictionary to work. How do you enable the dictionary function? Read all about enabling the dictionary function. :?: I want to update the firmware but I don't know how to. Can you help me? Follow the Firmware update guide. :?: My Boox is frozen and will not turn on or off again! Help! Looks like you might need to to a hard reset. :?: Changing the Language settings in the menu doesn't do anything. This was fixed in firmware update 1.2.2 :?: What about the amount of shades of gray? Some sites say it is 8, some say it is 16. Which is it? Both. Technically the display is able to show 16 shades of gray. At this moment (up to firmware 1.2.2) the software only supports showing 8 shades of gray which is good enough for reading. In the future support for showing 16 shades of gray will be added to a firmware upgrade, improving the displaying of graphic files at a cost to the battery usage. Probably this will be an user-customisable option. (eg. a button in the settings to switch between 8 and 16 shades) :?: How can I install a different font? Put your TTF font in the fonts folder [strike]then update the Boox with the firmware you want (probably the latest)[/strike]. Since 1.2.2 fonts can be installed on the fly - no need for reinstalling firmware. Also check the answer by pikoman to this post by smillman. :?: How can I export annotations / notes? You can not. Also see this post. :?: How do you make those fancy screenshots in the help topics on this forum? Can I make them too? You sure can. Press the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons simultaneously. A screenshot will be made and placed in the 'snapshots' directory on your memorystick. |
