RE: New: 1.6-0.2.0
Dear Koudijs,

In the next version, if you can, merge the things who are good in the last 1.7 version ( see here http://booxusers.com/thread-657-post-1652.html#pid1652 )

Examples:
- Wifi connection with hidden SSID
- The new power management (maybe solves a problem with the oldest Boox)
- My italian translation Angel
- The latest PDF Raeder(s)
- The new application/games added
- The availability to rotate the screen in 4 direction

(and.... are you able to do a jailbreaked version of this new firmware? Blush )

what exactly do you mean by that?

if you mean dewoldering the device during flashing, that is not possible. you have to unlock your device beforehand with another tool.

RE: New: 1.6-0.2.0
Now the only mechanism to dewolder a Boox is:

- Rewrite the kernel image and the initrd
- Reinstall another firmware

I ask if it's possible to produce a firmware who contains a kernel image (and initrd) without any lock. But this is only to satisfy the curiosity about the new 1.7 version.

The most important thing for me is to have a new OpenBoox firmware with the new features described above

well openboox doesn't contain locks in the firmware, as far as i know. i am not sure about how exactly the update process goes, and how does the lock interfere with it.

the most recent 1.7 that came out is claimed to be downgradable, at least to 1.5.1. i would assume it's wolderized.

RE: New: 1.6-0.2.0
anyone tried building the openboox recently? i am getting build errors on booxsdk, it seems to be looking at my system qt instead of one used in the build process.

i'm trying to make tiny changes to openboox explorer , and i cannot get the prerequisite stuff to build right :/

edit: it would seem that dependencies script trips over my system's gcc version string, and that causes problems down the line. well, hopefully i'll get it to build this time.

I suppose original author dropped the project. I've started looking at it since, getting to know it better.

i'm making small hacks on it, but don't expect miracles - this will take a while, since i am not very familiar with qt4.

I've patched up build system so far, as mpd build script had a flaw and made one tiny tweak to the explorer (read count under book name). I also bumped sqlite to most recent version, and started digging through database schema used for book database (it seems sub-optimal at few points, not sure if there was good reason for that).

Other things i am researching

- automatically opening last read book on startup
- updating prebuilt binaries to unofficial 1.7 version from artatech, but people report that they have some serious flaws with it - so, maybe not.
- updating booxsdk version used, and with it the included coolreader and all boox-opensource apps
- checking if mupdf based pdf reader can be included (there is mupdf-qt project on github which could be a start), potentially replacing adobe's reader.
- ability to sync books over network or use network mounts to read from e.g. network shares. or some simple ability to browse and mount smb/nfs shares (should help with testing, too)
- adding more fonts to the default image (mostly issues about their licensing, it should be easy)

Don't expect any miracles anytime soon, like i said it might not all fall through as i am fairly new to programming with qt4 and especially with booxsdk, but i'd hate to leave the project when it offers such potential.

in short - i guess it's our turn now to take it and develop it.
