RE: New: 1.6-0.2.0
hi, i think tools to dewolder should be included in the topic.

Wishes : shortcuts menu and recent files
oddities - file manager and main menu selection follows stylus' hover (from even 2cm away from the screen). Is that normal?

RE: New: 1.6-0.2.0
two major usability issues:
1 When screen is horizontal, next and prev scrolls too far (skipping some items) when browsing sd card
2 Prev button takes me to main menu from filebrowser, opening sd card again returns me to previously opened directory - no ".." or other way to go up one directory.

Also, no way to automatically open last opened book on power on.

I miss this feature too

Anyway thanks a lot for this new version, Koudijs.

Any plans to translate to other languages? Tongue

RE: New: 1.6-0.2.0
Thanks for all the reactions, it's great to see that my efforts are put into use.
I categorized the questions a bit for clarity.

About the current functionality:

Control is a bit different compared to the official firmware, the goal is to do things faster.
The idea behind the stylus hovering is that you can highlight an item without the need for mutiple up/down key presses. So you can highlight an item with the stylus and than use the Menu key to open the menu and perform an action on the item (e.g. delete it).
Prev and Next are used to go to the previous or next page within the current "folder".
Back brings you back to the home screen.
To go one level up you have to use the left key on the silver ring.
Try it for a while and let me know if you can get used to it.

This is a bug of which I currently don't know how to fix it.
The workaround is that when you switch from portrait to landscape you first select the 'up-side-down' landscape and after that you select to the 'normal' landscape. This way you will get your status bar back.

About the feature requests:
(2012-05-22 09:44 GMT)die1979 Wrote:  Can I change all the sub menus in English?
I have the main screen in English ... and the rest in Italian.
(2012-05-22 19:06 GMT)Crash Wrote:  Any plans to translate to other languages? Tongue
The explorer screens are in English, all applications are in the language that you selected in the official firmware. At this moment you have to use the official firmware to set everything back to English Sad I will see if I can find a way to work around this.
Implementing support for other languages is on the top of my priority list. I can take care of the Dutch translations but for other languages I will ask for volunteers when I'm ready for it.

(2012-05-22 16:08 GMT)yoshi314 Wrote:  Also, no way to automatically open last opened book on power on.
Since this is a missing feature compared to the official firmware, I want to take care of this soon.

The following questions need some clarification:
(2012-05-22 13:37 GMT)yoshi314 Wrote:  Wishes : shortcuts menu and recent files
There is no shortcuts menu, instead of this you can add entries to the Applications, Games and Websites category. Isn't this a replacement for a shortcuts menu?
Books contains a view with your recently read books, Music contains a view with your favorite songs. What will a recent files menu look like? Do you expect books, music etc. in one menu?

(2012-05-22 09:44 GMT)die1979 Wrote:  Can you also integrate, into the reading program for the automatic recognition, with stylus?
I don't know what you mean. Can you explain your request in more detail?

(2012-05-22 13:37 GMT)yoshi314 Wrote:  hi, i think tools to dewolder should be included in the topic.
Should I link to the dewolder thread? For what purpose?

One not directly related question:
(2012-05-22 09:44 GMT)die1979 Wrote:  Do you know where I can find a Complete Italian dictionary (*. dict)?
This post about the Onyx M92 has a section about dictionaries that is also applicable to the A60.
I hope it will be of any help.

RE: New: 1.6-0.2.0
dewoldering was a bit tricky, i had to do dewolder and also use your reset settings .upd file. Took me a lot of experiments to figure it out - not exactly a straightforward process.

recent menu - i thought about one limited to books only (or just everything thrown in)

One cool thing, navigating most pdfs is very fast, e.g. under 1s; on original fw i sometimes had to wait up to 5s on more complex pdfs to change pages. i wonder if binaries from 1.6 are that much improved, or is it due to something else?

RE: New: 1.6-0.2.0
Hello
Unfortunatelly, on the link you sent me, i didn’t found the italian mono language dictionary tha I was looking for.
We’re not so considered in the world.

Does exist a program (software) which convert *.prc or *.dict?

On the link i sent you in the beginning, were presents a series of softwares:
- The first-one, for convert some files on others format recognized by the reader software (book converter)
- The second-one was the software itself to use for reading (OnyxReader)
- The third-one was for converting some files in *.dict [Dictionary (Stardict) converter]

Yuo better try them directly on the reader
In 5 minutes you get an idea about the potentiality i could have if better developped

Sorry to hear that you had troubles with the update.
I have a few questions and hope you can answer them:
From which firmware version you performed the update?
At which state did the update fail? Was the update file rejected or did you end up with a frozen system after the progress bar completed? Or something else?

Anyone else who had problems with the update?

I assume that you directly open your books from the internal flash or SD card. In this case there is indeed no 'recent files' menu like you know it from the official firmware.
I see two types of documents; Documents that you read multiple times or refer back to once in a while, like the books you purchased. And documents that you read only once, like reports, newspapers and magazines. The idea of the current interface is that documents of the first type are added to the database, you then browse your collection by title, author etc. and you also have a 'recently read' list. Documents of the second type are directly read from the internal flash or SD card and when the reading is finished they are simply deleted. This way you can separate between 'long term' and 'short term' documents.
Does this make sense? Should there be a 'recent' list for the second type?

it was on 1.5 polish firmware. it could be my fault, as it comes in a file onyx_update.upd, while the device also accepts update.upd (not sure about the order or preference).

it looked as it flashed correctly, but i was back on firmware i started out with. i removed all .upd files off sd card, ran dewolder, your reset settings, removed it, put openboox .upd and it flashed fine. i'll just write it off as my fault.

also, the weird thing is that dewolder process only takes a few seconds, while people report it taking up to 10 minutes (or more) - i added some debugging to dewolder script as i thought maybe nothing ran at all, but it seems it did all work fine, only very very quickly ( ~ 3 seconds ) .

now that i think of it - it's better to do a poll or leave it as-is. i'll happily stick to books -> recent menu myself as it seems that feature would be more broad than I anticipated.

weird issue : coolreader apparently has no 'encoding' menu for various files. or the menu disappeared after first reading a file (after auto-shutdown i reopened file from recent menu and encoding was off). so i had to switch to fbreader. i was reading a .doc file with cp1250 encoding.

one more request - official firmware displayed page progress under filenames, so you could quickly figure out which books you've already been through (i've seen that books library has similar feature, but i'm more of a filemanager guy). what are the chances of bringing that back ?

RE: New: 1.6-0.2.0
Well done!

Feature requests:
1. Searching scribble files by filename
2. PROPER export of scribbles to SD card (in the stock 1.5.1 firmware on my X60, only the last page of a multi-page scribble is exported - clearly a bug).

If you can implement these, I will take a chance and install it on my X60 immediately!
